Cape Verde issues an electronic ID card in partnership with INCM

February 2, 2018

The new Cape Verde National Electronic ID Card (CNI) was presented on 23 January at the Paúl District Register and Notary Office in Santo Antão, at a ceremony presided over by the Cape Verde Minister of Justice and Labour, Janine Lelis.

This is an extremely significant project for Cape Verde, developed in partnership with INCM, which puts the country at the forefront in the world in terms of issuing latest generation identification documents, which are much more secure in physical and electronic terms.

During the presentation, the Cape Verde Minister of Justice and Labour emphasised that this is a “modern, authentic and multi-functional document that will replace the Identity Card”.

The new card contains a cryptographic microprocessor that securely stores citizen biographic and biometric data and their digital certificates, allowing electronic authentication and digital signatures to be used.

These new documents will thereby contribute to improving the security of civil identification of citizens, while enhancing the development of electronic government, modernising society and facilitating the life of citizens, rooted in the digital transformation of secure and reliable processes.
