October 25, 2013

The commemorative 2 Euro coin that makes reference to Guimarães 2012 - European Capital of Culture, created by José de Guimarães, and the European Series coin dedicated to the painter José Malhoa, by Paula Lourenço, have been nominated for the Coin of the Year Awards 2014, in the categories of Best Bi-metallic Coin and Best Artistic Coin respectively.

The coins that have been submitted were issued in 2012 and selected by a panel made up of authors, editors, numismatists and members of the American Numismatic Association, who met on the 4th of October to evaluate hundreds of coins received from all over the world.

The coins that have been selected will now be evaluated by an international panel, made up of various specialists, journalists and representatives of mints and museums, who will decide which of them will be awarded first places in the competition’s 10 categories, and which will be the best coin of the year.

The Coin of the Year Awards recognise the best work being done in the world in terms of the design, subject matter and marketing of coins, and will be presented during a ceremony to be held at the World Money Fair in Berlin on the 8th of February, 2014.
