The award ceremony of 2017 INCM Innovation Award took place yesterday at the industrial sector of Casa da Moeda, in Lisbon. The event, attended by the Minister of the Presidency and of Administrative Modernisation, Maria Manuel Leitão Marques, distinguished the three most innovative projects in the areas of Security and Technology.

«INTMOB - Intralogistics Mobile Assistant Unit for Flexible Manufacturing Systems» was the winning project of the 2017 INCM Innovation Award and plans for the creation of an autonomous robot for the intralogistics of INCM based on the paradigm of Industry 4.0. According to Prof. José Barata, from the Centre of Technologies and Systems of Universidade Nova, «the value proposition is the use of a mobile robot, which is simultaneously and operator and a transporter, that will allow not only the guarantee of the localisation and security of all the valuable materials transported inside INCM, as well as the release of employees from heavy and automated tasks, in order for them to fully focus on the actions that are truly essential».

The projects that received the 2nd and 3rd place were, respectively, the «Manufacture of Commemorative Coins through Additive Technologies», presented by a team of researchers form the Institute of Mechanical of Instituto Superior Técnico, which allows for the use of additive manufacture technologies (also called ‘3D print technologies’) for the production of disks with complex geometries and three-dimensional details, and the «BlockCarPollution», a project presented by members of University of Aveiro and company Ubiwhere, that aims to provide the users of collective and shared transports with a reward intelligent system, (through blockchain technology and the creation of a digital wallet), in order to encourage the reduction of the number of vehicles used every day and, therefore, the reduction of the levels of pollution.

The Minister of the Presidency and of Administrative Modernisation, Maria Manuel Leitão Marques, closed the ceremony, concluding that «innovation cannot be a fashion or a one-year event. Aware of this, INCM has integrated it into its strategy, in its daily life and in its external relations, making it a part of its DNA». She also thanked for the cooperation from all the universities involved, emphasising that «both the public and the private institutions need the knowledge that comes from the universities, as this is what allow us to modernise and meet the expectations of the increasingly demanding citizens».

The three winning ideas were awarded a financing of up to 500.000€, 250.000€ e 100.000€, respectively, enabling the development and improvement of these projects, for a total amount of 850.000€ invested by INCM.

Besides the presentation of the finalist ideas and the awards ceremony, the session also included a speech on «The importance of Innovation for the competitiveness of the companies», made by João Paulo Oliveira, Administrator of Navigator and partner of INCM at the collaborative lab in the area of intelligent and sustainable applications of paper (Almascience).
