2018 Coin Design Competition - “The Sea”

February 1, 2018

The Portuguese Mint and Official Printing Office (INCM), in partnership with the Municipality of Aveiro, is running the 2nd edition of its Coin Design competition during the first half of 2018, with the theme of “The Sea”.

With the aim of encouraging creativity and raising awareness of the cultural, heritage and artistic richness of coins in the education community, particularly among children, the goal of the competition is to get students from the 2nd and 3rd cycles of primary education from Aveiro involved in creating a design for a commemorative collector coin on the theme of “The Sea”, to form part of INCM’s 2019 Numismatic Plan to be approved by the Government.

The deadline for submissions is 30 March 2018, and it is estimated that 1900 students from the 2nd and 3rd cycles of primary education in the Municipality of Aveiro will get involved.

The winning design and the runners-up will be revealed on 27 April 2018. Following its evaluation, the competition's panel will also select a shortlist of designs to form part of an exhibition to be held in Aveiro during June 2018, at a location to be announced, before moving on to select the winning design and the two mentions of honour.
