INCM presents the 2014 publishing plan at the Imprensa Nacional Library

January 27, 2014

On the 24th of January, INCM presented its 2014 publishing plan to the public, in an event which took place at the Imprensa Nacional Library, thereby revealing its main publishing themes and guidelines.

The presentation was made by António Osório, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of INCM, and by Duarte Azinheira, the director of the Publications Unit, and was attended by the Secretary of State for Culture, Jorge Barreto Xavier, among other personalities from the culture and publishing worlds.

From the novelties announced for 2014, the launch of a collection of great Portuguese personalities' biographies, such as Almada Negreiros, Fernando Pessoa, Salgueiro Maia and the Soldado Milhões, among others, stood out. The texts for this collection, which is aimed at children and youths, will be created by José Jorge Letria and the illustrations by renowned Portuguese authors.

Another novelty that stood out was the Biblioteca Fundamental da Literatura Portuguesa (Fundamental Library of the Portuguese Literature), a new publishing project that intends to become a reference in the Portuguese literature. It will be directed by Carlos Reis, with the support of the National Reading Plan and of Instituto Camões (Camões Institute), offering the general public trustworthy versions of the texts by the greatest names of the Portuguese literature, from the 15th century to the present day.

The 2014 publishing plan also considers joint publishing with public and private partners, a recent path in INCM's publishing policy that should be consolidated in the next few years, allowing new titles and publications to be published in a sustainable way.

The launch of new titles is envisaged in the Law and Jurisprudence series, remaining one of INCM's main commitments, together with the Architecture and Design themes, with particular emphasis to the Coleção D (Collection D).

After presenting the main publishing projects, the printing-works of the Imprensa Nacional was the venue for a chamber music concert by soloists from the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra, who presented the audience with pieces by Bach, Vivaldi and Berio.
