Casa da Moeda welcomes visitors from Lisboa Open House

October 7, 2013

On 5th October, Casa da Moeda's building opened its doors to welcome around 180 visitors from Lisboa Open House, an event which seeks to show the public the most emblematic buildings in the city, from a cultural and architectural point of view.

The visitors, who were duly accompanied by staff from INCM who looked after their safety and provided some explanations, thereby had the opportunity of getting to know Casa da Moeda's architecture, making their way round part of the buildings, including some areas of restricted access.

Among the various guided tours, one of the highlights was the visit guided by the architect Andreia Galvão, who explained the historic context and importance of Casa da Moeda and its designer, the architect Jorge Segurado, showing the participants details that usually go unnoticed to those less knowledgeable.

Due to its functional character, Casa da Moeda's building is of an unparalleled type in Portugal and is of unique value as a testimony to complex Portuguese modernity, being classified as a monument of public interest.

INCM would like to thank the cooperation and interest shown by all the participants, so essential for the event's success.
