View the architecture of the Casa da Moeda during the Lisbon Open House event

September 30, 2013

On the 5th of October, the Casa da Moeda building will once again welcome visitors from Lisbon Open House, an event that forms part of an international initiative aimed at allowing the general public to view the buildings in the country's capital that are most emblematic from a cultural and architectural point of view.

After the resounding success of last year's first edition of the Lisbon Open House event, during which the Casa da Moeda welcomed nearly to 200 visitors, this is another opportunity to view the building designed by the architect Jorge de Almeida Segurado during the 1930s, which is considered to be one of the best examples of modernist architecture in Portugal.

Open House is an international initiative that this year is being held in 20 cities known for architectural excellence, such as Barcelona, London, New York, Rome and Buenos Aires, among others. The organisation of the event in the Portuguese capital city falls to the Lisbon Architecture Triennale.

The aim of this year's selection is to showcase the best buildings designed and constructed in Lisbon and includes a wide variety of types of spaces from different contexts and times, which can be visited for free over the weekend of the 5th and 6th of October.

Guided tours of the Casa da Moeda building should be booked in advance and will take place on the 5th of October, once per hour, from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. There is a maximum limit of 10 people on each tour and the tour at 11 a.m. will be led by the architect Andreia Galvão.
