Presentation of the Universidade de Coimbra Alta e Sofia coin

The coin dedicated to Universidade de Coimbra Alta e Sofia (Coimbra Alta & Sofia University), the latest instalment of the series celebrating UNESCO listed world heritage sites in Portugal, was yesterday officially presented to the public in Coimbra University's Senate Chamber.

This presentation was presided over by the Rector of Coimbra University, João Gabriel Silva, the director of Coimbra municipal government's Department of Culture, Tourism and Sport, Francisco Paz, and Rui Carp, Chairman of the INCM's Board of Directors.

Designed by sculptor Andreia Pereira, the coin celebrating Universidade de Coimbra Alta e Sofia is an issue limited to 2,500 copies in proof silver, presented in a case with a guarantee certificate, and 75,000 in cupronickel with normal finishing.

Following the presentation, there was an opportunity to admire all 16 coins forming part of the World Heritage series, which were on display in the Armas Hall at Coimbra University.
