Staged reading marks World Theatre Day in the Imprensa Nacional Library

March 28, 2014

Yesterday, World Theatre Day was celebrated in the Imprensa Nacional Library, with actor José Neves performing a staged reading of Luís Campião’s play Nossa Senhora da Açoteia.

José Neves is a permanent member of the cast of National Theatre of D. Maria II and for around an hour, his interpretation captured the audience's attention around an intensely dramatic text, which won the 6th edition of the António José da Silva Luso-Brazilian Dramaturgy Award, an award set up by Funarte, from Brazil, in partnership with Camões – Institute for Cooperation and Language.

The show, which was open to the general public and with free admission, was the result of the partnership between the INCM and National Theatre of D. Maria II and marked the beginning of a programme of cultural initiatives devised for the Imprensa Nacional Library, with the objective of bringing more life and activity to this space, for the sake of Portuguese culture.
